Animal Bone Char BioPhosphate Product Specification

ABC (Animal Bone Char) BioPhosphate characteristics

Phosphorus is the strategic key element of the food crop and animal production in agriculture. Phosphorus cannot be substituted. There are no any other materials with high P2O5 content (>30%) known than apatite minerals from phosphate rocks (but this is contaminated with Cadmium and Uranium) or bone char (that is a natural and pure apatite substance). The low heavy metal content phosphate rock resources are already exhausted on global level.

The EU fragile agri-food markets already seriously affected by external factors such as global warming, pollution, loss of fertile soils/biodiversity. Covid-19 and the new geopolitical situation together are putting agriculture under extreme pressure with significantly increased energy and fertiliser costs. The price of phosphate rock changed by 315% between mid 2021 and 2023. Due to the high dependence on imports of energy/fertilisers the agri-food sector became vulnerable. In this complex challenge the replacement of the imported Critical Raw Material phosphate rock with high nutrient dense, high quality/safe and EU origin P bio-fertilizers is the most important crucial challenge. The phosphate is recognized by the European Commission as critical raw material in 2017 (EU COM (2017) 490) .

The ABC (Animal Bone Char) BioPhosphate is made of food grade cattle and other types of bone grist, which is processed at 133 degree Celsius for 20 minutes under 3 bar processing conditions. The food grade animal bone processing outputs are bone meal for pet food, gelatin for human food and china bone material for high quality porcelain industry applications. Please check the the key differences between slaughterhouse output crude animal by-products and it's derived products from rendering industries>>

The bone grist from the rendering industry is the input to the 3R pyrolysis process, where the material is heated to as high as 850 degree Celsius material core carbonization temperature, that is far higher than usual biomass processing temperatures, but absolute needed to get high quality and safe product. During the advanced pyrolysis (reductive thermal processing) all volatile and protein based substances are removed from the mineral frame, and a highly macro-porous hydroxyapatite (70-76%), CaCO3 (7-13%) and carbon (9-11%) content apatite type mineral material produced.

The specific animal bone char carrier based ABC-BioPhosphate contains high amount of Phosphorus expressed in P2O5 (35%) and Calcium (37%) available for plants, which allows efficient, environmentally safe and naturally renewable phosphorus supply. Beside the highly available recovered phosphorus content the animal bone charcoal also contains other important recovered trace elements, and other nutrients, such as K and Mg.
The  toxic elements content of the ABC-BioPhosphate product approaches the range of non detectable levels.

The formulated ABC-BioPhosphate product providing microbiologically beneficial natural soil microorganisms that are entrapped on the internal and external surface of the carrier. The positive effects of the application of the 3R products are the plant grown promotion activity, natural fertilization and the biopesticide effects. The substitution of chemical fertilisers by BioPhosphate will accelerate the EU green transition to sustainable, circular and resource efficient, energy independent food systems and enhancing healthy, resilient and fair food systems.

Different types of 3R specific ABC-BioPhoshates and  formulated products are available depending on the input material and carbonisation process.

The BioPhosphate is sucessfully verified:

  • The BioPhSolar Impulse awardosphate fertiliser Solution is awarded the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution. It has been assessed and formally validated (accepted) by three External independent Experts based on the five criteria (credibility of concept, scalability, environmental benefits, client’s economic incentive, seller’s profitability). In particular, the three independent Experts performed valid assessments, thus provided complete and coherent answers in accordance to the official “Label Standards” and “Assessment Guidelines”. https://solarimpulse.com/solutions-explorer/biophosphate-fertiliser
  • The Biophosphate product has been successfully field demonstrated in different climatic/soil conditions, incl. Mediterranean and continental as well. ABC-BioPhosphate product horticultural application permit number: 6300/2407-1/2020
  • Full industrial EU REACH Authority certified for tonnage band over 1000 tonnes/year. REACH registration number:  01-2119490075-38-0042

The application advantages of the specific ABC-BioPhosphate product:

There are two main markets: ORGANIC and LOW INPUT FARMING, most importantly through Producer Organisations (that is our distribution hub) for fresh vegetable and fruit productions, and ADSORBENT INDUSTRY: supply of specific adsorbents to drinking/industrial water treatment sector, including spent ABC adsorbent regeneration.

The high adsorption capacity for large organic molecules and the unique macro-porous mineral structure provides wide range of bone char applications in the agriculture, food production and environmental sectors, such as:

  • Recovered Organic P/Ca fertilizer
  • Soil microbiological carrier for combined soil improvement, plant growth promotion, organic fertilization and biocontrol.
  • Sugar refinery and decolourisation,
  • Drinking water treatment,
  • High efficient treatment of sewage water, contaminated subsurface water and industrial process water,

The ABC-BioPhosphate is an specific formulated, Authority tested and permitted product developed under European Union Programmes.

TEN REASONS

... why do you need

  1. Phosphorus is strategic key element of the food crop and animal production in agriculture. NO P = NO Agriculture = NO Food.
  2. The EU is >88% is importing the mineral phosphate, most MS 100%, but this is containing Cadmium, Uranium and other toxic elements.
  3. The phosphate is recognized by the EC as critical raw material with high supply risk in 2017.
  4. Growing food demand = growing phosphorus demand.
  5. Finite phosphate: the low Cadmium and Uranium content mineral fertilizer resources already used up, depleted and in the future only high contaminated resources are available.
  6. Geopolitical risks: imported Phosphate is a critically important issue for the national security already now.
  7. Globally all farmers need phosphorus, yet just 5 countries control 88% of the worlds remaining phosphate rock reserves.
  8. An inefficient food system: large amount of P to waste streams, no recovery.
  9. Cheap fertilizer: a thing of the past for farmers.
  10. Very drastic P price increase (>300%) and fertiliser crisis since 2021 due to the new geopolitical situation and COVID pandeminc.
